ORGANIZATION: Central Georgia CASA

  • 6 people are interested

Thank you for your interest in becoming a new CASA volunteer. We are conducting a new volunteer training and we would like you to join us. Each week, the volunteers will attend classroom training sessions and will also have the opportunity to sit through court hearings and observe real cases and active volunteers live on Wednesdays. The entire training is made up of 30 classroom hours and 10 hours of court observations. Upon completion of the training you will be sworn in as an officer of the court by Judge Matthews as a Court Appointed Special Advocate to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in foster care in Bibb, Crawford, and Peach counties. Volunteers can expect to spend an average 10-20 hours per month fulfilling their duties as a CASA. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license, be 21 years of age or older, and pass a background check. For additional questions and to set up an interview, please reply to this opportunity, email megan.anderson@cgcasa.org or call 478-238-6318.

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, and even prison as adults. That's where CASA steps in. CASA was created to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect during or after their stay in foster care. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child has committed, caring adult to advocate for their placement in a safe, permanent home, with family or though adoption, and to ensure their needs while in foster care are met.
