Working with advocates and clients to make sure every child in KC has a bed is the heart of what we do. An opportunity to help manage these relationships, keep records current and accurate and to contribute to the success of this program is available. Sleepyhead Beds has a small but mighty staff and this volunteer position will provide tremendous impact to helping us meet our mission.

There is plenty of flexibility for this position. Hours per day/week can certainly vary and some work could be accomplished remotely, but having someone onsite to support communications with advocates and clients via email and phone calls and to efficiently update all information in the CRM system is our priority.

This position will also be supporting managing volunteers and their experience with Sleepyhead Beds.

The warehouse/office is centrally located in the heart of Kansas City at 5604 Troost Avenue.

Our mission - Sleepyhead Beds improves the quality of life for children and their families by providing clean, reusable beds and bedding. And we contribute to the health and environment of our community by sanitizing beds and keeping them out of landfills.

Mission Statement

Our mission - Sleepyhead Beds improves the quality of life for children and their families by providing clean, recycled beds and bedding. And we contribute to the health and environment of our community by sanitizing beds and keeping them out of landfills.

Description

Sleepyhead Beds was founded in 2010 by Monica Starr, a local Kansas City resident. While working as a CASA advocate, Monica discovered that children could not come out of the foster system and be reunited with their family of origin unless they had a bed to sleep in. And many did not. She mobilized her family, neighbors, and professional network and began collecting beds to distribute to these children so they could go home. Sleepyhead Beds was granted 501(c)3 status in 2011. In the last nine years we have distributed over 20,000 beds to Kansas City kids and their immediate families. We also collect and redistribute gently used bedding as well as provide new pillows.
