ORGANIZATION: California Child Care Resource & Referral Network

Responsibility: To effectively govern the operation of the California Child Care Resource and Referral Network by ensuring we are accountable to our public stakeholders and to the member agencies we serve.

Authority: To establish policies, goals and a budget which provide the framework within which operations are carried out. Maintain accountability by reviewing operations and measuring results. A Board Member is elected for a 3 year term and is accountable for overseeing the affairs of the R&R Network and that the agency adheres to laws/regulations set forth in contracts and agreements entered into by the agency.

Agency Vision:All families have access to quality early care and learning and family support services that meet their diverse needs

Agency Mission:To partner with and support local child care resource and referral agencies (R&Rs) to advance and advocate for an early learning and support system that promotes the wellbeing of all California families

Principal Duties:
  • Attend and participate in four (quarterly) meetings of the Board of Directors
  • Prepare for Board meetings by reading minutes of previous meeting and becoming informed on subjects to be discussed in order to participate actively in Board discussions and decisions.
  • Participate in strategic planning and establishing organization goals.
  • Approve Long Range Plan and annual operating budget.
  • Familiarize yourself with child care resource and referral programs or our state’s current child care landscape; we encourage a visit to your local R&R agency.
  • Make financial contributions as personal resources allow and support, promote and participate in fund raising efforts for the R&R Network.
  • Support, guide and evaluate the work of the Executive Director.
  • Support the majority decisions of the Board of Directors.
  • Understand the necessity for, and keep the confidentiality of, the Board's work until such time as it is released for general information.
  • Serve on at least one of several committees: Audit, Finance, Merger Exploration, Board Development
Qualifications:
  • Recognition of the role and importance of child care resource and referral and quality child care for California families.
  • Ability to work strategically and effectively with a group.
  • Effective communication skills. Ability to represent the R&R Network and articulate its mission and policies.
  • Ability to adopt a statewide perspective.
  • Experience on a Board or at a non-profit agency preferred.
  • Experience in governance of fiscal, policy or legal issues preferred.
  • An appreciation of California's rich cultural, ethnic and geographic diversity.
  • California resident.
