Responsibilities: To effectively govern the operation of the California Child Care Resource and Referral Network by functioning in six major areas: program and policy development, fund development, finance, personnel, evaluation and public relations.

Authority: To establish policies, corporate goals and a budget which provide the framework within which operations must be carried out. Maintain control by reviewing operations and measuring results.

Accountability: A Board Member is elected for a 3 year term and is accountable for managing the affairs of the R&R Network and to laws/regulations set forth in contracts and agreements entered into by the agency.

Principal Duties:

  • Attend and participate in four meetings of the Board of Directors
  • Prepare for Board meetings by reading minutes of previous meeting and becoming informed on subjects to be.discussed, in order to participate actively in Board discussions and
  • Participate in strategic planning and establishing organization
  • Approve Long Range Plan and annual operating
  • Visit three child care resource and referral programs
  • Stay current on child care policies and children's
  • Support, promote and participate in fund raising efforts for the R&R Network and make financial contributions as personal resources allow. R&R agency dues are considered a financial
  • Support, guide and evaluate the work of the Executive
  • Support the majority decisions of the Board of
  • Understand the necessity for, and keep the confidentiality of, the Board's work until such time as it is released for general
  • Abstain from any action that might lead to a conflict of


  • Recognition of the role and importance of child care resource and referral and quality child care for California
  • Ability to articulate a vision for child care and family policy
  • Ability to work strategically and effectively with a
  • Effective communication
  • Ability to represent the R&R Network and articulate its mission and
  • Ability to adopt a statewide
  • Experience on a Board or committee preferred (either within R&R Network or in community).
  • Well connected through R&R agency or individually in the
  • Experience in governance of fiscal, policy or legal issues
  • An appreciation of California's rich cultural, ethnic and geographic
  • California resident
  • Demonstrated leadership and expertise in
  • Knowledge of community organizations and
