Mission Statement

Friends of League City Animal Shelter aka League City Pets Alive is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Our purpose is to stop the senseless killing of companion animals and maintain the "NO KILL" status of League City. We acquire donations or raise funds for the purchase of services and supplies not covered by the City budget. Funds are used for veterinary care, medical supplies. food, related animal supplies, shelter supplies, and volunteer expenses.

In 2013 we set a goal to become NO KILL. We achieved that goal completely in 2017. A shelter is considered "no kill" at 90% live release rate. We didn't stop there. Our volunteers and staff work tirelessly and we achieved 96% live release in 2018 . Committing to be "no kill" means providing treatment for animals that most shelters would kill rather than spend funds to treat. Our community has a generous giving spirit and we are blessed with donations that allow us to save animals with curable diseases or conditions. In 2017 we hired "Dogs Playing for Life" , professional trainers to train our volunteers. Play groups require 50 specially trained volunteers. In 2018 we began treating the most at "risk dogs with heart worms". We have cats showing and being adopted at FIVE area pet supply stores. This increased our live release of cats from 92% in 2018 to 97% for the first quarter of 2019. The Cat Condo program requires 70 volunteer shifts per week.

"No Kill" isn't about warehousing animals. We currently have more animals in foster care than in the shelter. This requires more than 20,000 foster care volunteer hours a year.
We have a new animal shelter under construction which will give us more space to engage the community at the shelter and develop more life saving programs.

We'll work with your schedule.
