The objective of our Emergency Wildlife Rescue & Transport volunteer position is to provide on-demand emergency rescue and transport for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in Pinellas County with the ability to humanely capture and safely contain wildlife to transport to SPCA Tampa Bay.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have 2 years of driving experience
- Must be able to safely drive in all weather conditions
- Must pass a driving background screening
- Valid driver’s license, insurance and clean driving record
- Knowledge of wildlife preferred
- Comfortable working with a variety of wildlife species
- Knowledge of standard SPCA policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate and work well with the public, staff and other volunteers
- Pay a nonrefundable amount of $20 for volunteer gear & driving screen
Responsibilities:
- Be available to humanely capture and safely contain sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife
- Maintain communication with supervisor during pick up/drop off process
- Transport animals to SPCA Tampa Bay
- Professionally represent SPCA Tampa Bay at all times
Training:
- Complete telephone meet and greet with Volunteer Program Manager
- Complete onsite meeting with Intake Services Manager
- Complete and pass driving background screening
Physical Demands:
- Carry, kneel, bend, push, and pull
- Walk and stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds
Time Commitment:
- On call availability for 1 shift a week Sunday-Saturday: 7am-10am; 10am-1pm; 1pm-4pm; 4pm-7pm

- Based out of Largo shelter

SPCA Tampa Bay is the only non-profit, animal welfare agency that runs an open-admission animal shelter, pet training facility and public veterinary center in Pinellas County. Our shelter in Largo cares for more than 8,000 animals annually that have been surrendered by their owners, along with injured wildlife. SPCA Tampa Bay cares for dogs, cats, pocket pets, exotic animals, and livestock like goats and pigs. Animals receive immunizations, medical care, behavior training and enrichment, and loving care while they live at our shelter.
