ORGANIZATION: SOUTHWEST RECOVERY ALLIANCE

  • 25 people are interested

Southwest Recovery Alliance is back and accepting volunteer applications! We are only looking for people who are actively using to come out and volunteer at our SSP's. People with lived experience will be highly considered.

Outreach is twice a week, but this post is for Tuesdays at 11:45AM to 2:15PM. The end time can change slightly depending on how long it takes to pack up. We do ask for a three-month commitment to start off with, and you can volunteer at both sites or just one, it's up to you! If you are interested in harm reduction, please fill out an application on our website after you reply to this post: www.southwestrecoveryalliance.org. The application is listed in the 'Volunteer' section. Eventually, I will be looking for an SSP Manager who would work with me to help run our SSP's in addition to being responsible for our volunteers during outreach.

Our goal is to help people stay safe by providing clean supplies and Naloxone, the opioid-reversal drug. We also work on patient navigation for HCV and HIV. We plan to create a Leadership Program with AZDHS. Also, we have co-convened with AZDHS to work on Arizona's Hep C elimination plan. HCV and HIV testing is available at both of our sites.

There is a ton of work that can be done outside of our SSP's if you would like to get involved with more once you become a volunteer. We work on grants, fundraising, advocacy work, and much, much more!

We are a very small organization that is going on three years old, but we have made huge strides in Arizona, partnering with Aunt Rita's as well as working on multiple bills that have passed this year and last year. If you have a passion for helping people and love harm reduction, we would love to have you on our team!

About SOUTHWEST RECOVERY ALLIANCE

Location:

Mission Statement

The Southwest Recovery Alliance is a regional grassroots organization dedicated to the implementation of evidence based public health strategies, policy transformation, and justice reform in Arizona and throughout the Southwest.

Description

Giving out life saving supplies and doing street outreach is actually a very small part of what we are doing (though it is important in that it gives us access to a hard to reach, criminalized and stigmatized population). Our of our most important functions is to serve as an access point for the many other services we provide directly or to refer to our numerous community partners. We offer resources such as Naloxone to save people from overdoses. We provide training and education for people who want to learn about overdose prevention and hep C and HIV transmission. Our goal is to lower the overdoses in Arizona so that people can see their loved ones everyday. Hepatitis C and HIV transmissions are lowered when people are supplied with the sterile tools and resources they need, and that is what we do everyday; that is our mission.
