Hands for Holly Memorial Fund was co-founded by 14-year old Holly Wade as she battled brain cancer at the age of 14. Tragically she lost her fight in 2016, but Hands for Holly Fund has been doing the work she envisioned ever since. Hands for Holly is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that offers financial assistance to families in need who are caring for a child with cancer. Visit www.handsforholly.org for information on our charity.

We are seeking sewers to help us on Saturday, April 25th between 12 noon - 3:00 p.m. in Charlotte to make port pillows for children in chemotherapy treatment. Port pillows are considered a "must have" for children fighting cancer as the pillows protect their port from infection and offer comfort from a seat belt when riding in a car.

The completed pillows will be distributed to our local hospital partners of Levine Children's Hospital, Hemby Children's Hospital and the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic of Charlotte.

Skills Needed:
- Sewing Machine Knowledge to sew a 4" X 7" Pillow
- Ideally we would love this volunteer to bring a sewing machine to the event to use

Mission Statement

Hands for Holly is a 501(c)3 charity that was co-founded by 14-year old Holly Wade as she was battling brain cancer. Hands for Holly's mission is to provide financial assistance to families in need caring for a child with cancer. Our vision is to eliminate Cancer Related Financial Toxicity (CRFT) by providing a continuum of assistance for families caring for a child with cancer through direct financial assistance and access to financial planning and education. We do this by paying essential expenses (i.e. mortgage, utilities, transportation, etc.) to alleviate financial stress and give families the ability to focus on accessing care, getting well, and being at their child's bedside when they need them the most.

Description

Our story began on December 10, 2015, two days before Co-Founder Holly Ann Wade’s 14 th birthday, when an MRI uncovered a tumor resting in the thalamus section of her brain. It was during Holly’s treatments that Holly and her parents learned of the profound financial needs of families caring for children with pediatric cancer. They met families who had to decide whether to pay a medical bill or the mortgage, or to stay with their hospitalized child or go to work. Witnessing how cancer had altered other families’ lives concerned Holly greatly and she wanted to help do something about it. Unfortunately, Holly lost her battle on July 1, 2016, but not before she worked with her mother to define the mission of the Hands for Holly Memorial Fund. Over the past three years, Hands for Holly has bridged partnerships to donate more than $450,000 to families, helping over 1,350 people.
