Brief Description and Mission
Promote history and play an essential role in enriching the lives of the Broomfield community by joining the Friends of Broomfield History Board of Directors! Our nonprofit organization strives to promote the history Broomfield for our community through educational programs, outreach, scholarships, and more. You can help the Friends of Broomfield History make that happen by investing some of your time and expertise in this nonprofit organization.
The Friends of Broomfield History Board of Directors is a membership-based, nonprofit organization that fosters the history of Broomfield through fundraising, community engagement, and support for the historic Broomfield Depot Museum. The Vision of the Friends of Broomfield History Board of Directors is to enliven historic places, promote community identity, and interpret Broomfield’s story within a larger context. The organization recognizes the importance of collaboration, communication, diversity, fiscal responsibility, inclusivity, intersectionality, relevance, respect, and transparency.
Key Responsibilities of a Board Member
- Support the Friends of Broomfield History Board of Directors in attaining its mission, vision, values and goals by providing input and leadership in your area of expertise.
- Work in coordination with the board chair person and other board members to undertake projects in order to support the long-term sustainability of the organization.
- Regularly attend board meetings and committee meetings, review meeting agendas and supporting materials prior to the meeting, and otherwise exercise a duty of care and respect to the oversight of the board.
- Continue to foster excellence of accountability, transparency, and effectiveness of the Friends of Broomfield History nonprofit organization.
- Serve on committees and take on special assignments as requested.
- Help identify organizational needs and areas of potential growth
- Bring relevant professional and personal experience to the projects required of the members of the Board of Directors
- Actively participate and grant writing to obtain additional funding for programs and outreach opportunities.
- Actively participate in programs, and outreach efforts.
- Ensure board resolutions are carried out in a timely fashion.
- Act as an ambassador for the organization both within one’s areas of expertise and in the community at large.
- Continue to ensure commitment to a diverse board that reflects the community it serves.
Qualifications
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about history and the community of Broomfield. This position will provide the opportunity to be in a leadership role and generate community support for history of Broomfield and the Broomfield Depot Museum.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in education, finance, human services, government or nonprofit experience, public speaking, fundraising, grant writing, community engagement or, other leadership roles. Several positions are available depending upon your professional experience and areas of expertise and interest.
Time Commitment
The Friends of Broomfield History Board of Directors is a working board and the organization’s success relies on board involvement and contribution. Board members will serve a one-year term and be eligible for a reappointment for up to six terms. Board meetings will be held no more than once a month and no less than six times per year. Board members donate their time and serve without pay.
