Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services.
Help our clients’ voices be heard by engaging with community members about the 2020 Census! A complete count ensures that our community has access to the resources and investments we need for all individuals and families to thrive. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help community members during specific hours from March 23 rd to May 15 th. Volunteers will be responsible for greeting clients, monitoring designated census stations, and answering general questions about the census. Volunteers will be located either at our Herndon or Reston offices in two hour shifts ranging from 9am-8pm.
A training in mid-March focused on the census will be available to those who are interested in helping out! Please note that volunteers will NOT be conducting door-to-door canvassing, making phone calls, or filling out the census for clients.
Volunteer Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Willing to commit to at least one shift
- Friendly and enjoy engaging with community members
- Bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese or another language is a bonus, but not required

Mission Statement
Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services. We remain firmly rooted in the Reston community and embrace founder Robert E. Simon’s principle of inclusivity. We apply this value - that all may "live, work, play and serve" - in the many communities where we now operate.
Description
Cornerstones helps individuals and families survive tough economic times in an already high cost-of-living community. Through advocacy and support services, we connect our clients to the vital resources they need to build more self-sufficient lives. Our success comes from a comprehensive array of programs, wrap-around services that solve urgent or on-going requirements for housing, childcare, food or financial assistance all with the goal to sustain healthy families, secure housing, and financial independence.
