Get involved with helping children succeed in school! The time you spend with elementary students will make a difference for the rest of their lives. Volunteers will spend time one-on-one with children who need addtional help in reading, comprehension and spelling. You may help with art projects, conduct flash card drills or help children in making up missed school work. You can be a positive role model and encourage the children to do their best! Benefit Foster Grandparents receive:

  • Non-taxable stipend from $159-$487 per month, depending on the number of hours you volunteer. This stipend does not affect your social security, subsidized housing, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, etc.
  • Paid orientation and training
  • Free daily meal at site (when available)
  • Transportation assistance
  • Supplemental insurance when on duty
  • Paid time off including holidays, vacation and sick leave

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Foster Grandparent Program is to provide meaningful opportunities for income-eligible seniors (55 and over) to give supportive, individual services to children with special needs in health, education, welfare and related settings.

Description

The North Central Region Foster Grandparent Program has been in operation since 1972. Our office is in Aberdeen, SD, and we serve communities in north central South Dakota as well as the Cheyenne River and Standing Rock Reservations.
