Literacy Plus is a free program of the Hayward Public Library. The program recruits and trains volunteers to provide one-on-one adult literacy tutoring, English as a Second Language practice, computer literacy training, and family literacy programming. The program will be launching a Learning Center on campus at CSU East Bay, and we are currently recruiting volunteers to tutor at this site.
The Computer Learning Lab Volunteer Tutor position is under the direction and the supervision of the Literacy Plus Program Coordinator and provides general support for the program, as described below.
Typical Duties:
· Provide one-on-one and group tutoring for adults
· Assist with the Computer Learning Lab
· Outreach - distribution of flyers and materials within the community
· Filing and copying
· Preparing mailings
· Collating and assembling materials
· Preparing and setting up for classes
· Follow-up phone calls
Qualifications:
· Be at least 18 years of age
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Keyboarding and computer experience
· Ability to communicate clearly
· Ability to climb stairs, move boxes, etc.
· Ability to use standard office equipment
· Willingness and ability to follow directions
· Personable and courteous
· Reliability and promptness
· Motivated, culturally sensitive, organized and detail-oriented
· Willingness to be fingerprinted and have a background check completed
