Mitzvah Food Program, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia
Do you want to help alleviate food insecurity in your neighborhood? Contribute between 2 - 10 hours a month and help put healthy food on your neighbor's dinner tables.
The Mitzvah Food Program of Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia distributes food to more than 100 families every Wednesday at the Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park. We need organizing, streamlining, and distributing food, assisting our older adult clients by carrying the food to their cars, and chipping in where necessary.
If you are interested or for more information, please contact Phil Holtje - pholtje@jewishphilly.org or call (215) 832-0815.
The Mitzvah Food Program runs 5 food pantries in the Greater Philadelphia area. Last year we served over 7,800 people through our delivery services, pantry hours, and emergency grocery bags. You can learn more about our pantries on our website: https://jewishphilly.org/mfp

The mission of the Mitzvah Food Program is to provide food and basic staples in a caring and dignified manner community members who are in need, and to educate and advocate on their behalf. Our five pantries distribute nutritious food to all who are in need, regardless of race, income, gender, age or religion.
The Mitzvah Food Program was piloted in 1996 to alleviate hunger and malnutrition among at-risk families in the Greater Philadelphia region.
With broad-based support from the region’s Jewish community and hunger relief agencies, the Mitzvah Food Program, which initially distributed food through a single community site, has expanded its geographic reach throughout Philadelphia and into the region’s lower-income suburban neighborhoods.
The Mitzvah Food Program benefits from both the support of an advisory committee made up of active community members, local nutritionists, and site leaders and a team of dedicated volunteers that keep our pantries and deliveries running smoothly. We also work with local and state hunger relief organizations, synagogues, and community organizations to acquire low-cost food staples and with volunteer groups throughout the region to organize food drives.
During 2018-2019, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Mitzvah Food Program distributed 841,206 pounds of food to 7,846 clients.
We'll work with your schedule.
