Hospice patient visiting

Heartland Hospice is looking for people who have a little extra time and a lot of heart! We are made up of a dedicated team that focuses on enhancing the quality of life by providing comfort care as well as spiritual, social and emotional support to patients in the final phase of a terminal illness. Volunteering for Heartland is an excellent way for college students to give back and become involved in their communities with flexible hours and weekend/evening hours available.

After excellent training, volunteers visit hospice patients in their homes about once a week, to listen, talk and comfort. Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet new people, do meaningful work, stay active, and share your knowledge!

Our program stresses human values that go beyond the physical needs of the patient and we strive to ensure that our patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort. Volunteers provide a supportive role only, no hands-on care is required. PPE is provided to volunteers and temperature/symptom checks are performed prior to all visits. Social distancing guidelines are adhered to by all Heartland Hospice employees and volunteers.

Heartland Hospice volunteers say that being involved with another person's hospice experience gives them a greater appreciation for life. Call Heartland Hospice's Volunteer Coordinator in Albuquerque (Jessica Potter) to learn more about the difference you can make: (505) 323-1464.
