Position Summary:

Wish granters are essential to fulfilling each child’s wish. They work in teams of two or three and help the wish child determine their heartfelt wish. Wish granters create an exceptional wish experience through building a relationship with the child and their family. Wish children come from all different backgrounds and cultures, so with the help of bilingual wish granters, a wish child can communicate in a language that they are most comfortable with during the wish process! No experience needed! We will provide training.

As a Bilingual Wish Granter you will:

  • Work with an assigned partner or a partner of choice like a friend or family member to help grant wishes.
  • Complete wish paperwork and obtain necessary documentation.
  • Create magic into each wish by coordinating and delivering "wish boosts"-special, creative touches throughout the wish process that keep the child excited about their wish.
  • Solicit in-kind donations (goods or services) and help Make-a-Wish use resources wisely.
  • Communicate between the family and Foundation--help keep the family updated on the status of the wish, answer any questions, and develop a positive rapport with the child and family.
  • Plan events like a "send-off" or "presentation" party for the wish child.
  • Be a reliable, communicative, and productive member of the "wish team"-work closely with a volunteer partner and the Make-a-Wish staff to create the best possible wish experience for the child.

How You can Help:

  • Take part in at least one volunteer activity per year.
  • Each wish on average, requires a time commitment of 10-15 hours over a span of about 9-12 months; however each wish can vary greatly in the time it takes to fulfill the wish and time required as a Wish Granter.
    • A short term opportunity called Wish Discovery Volunteer, where you are only responsible for meeting with the child and recording their wish ideas, is also avialable.
  • Serve as a wish granter for at least one year.
We welcome all bilingual wish granters, but are particularly interested in volunteers fluent in Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Hmong, and ASL.
