Volunteer Job Description
Job Title: Chefs and Prep Chefs
Purpose: Harmony Café hosts meal events to the community that is 2.5 hours in length with live music on a monthly basis. We provide the basic need for food and community in a welcoming gathering place for all our community members, regardless of their means. Dining together and supporting one another in building friendships and a healthier community. We use a pay what you can pricing. We need chefs and prep chefs to prepare fresh dishes that are on the healthier side to be served to guests. We average 55 guests per event.
Hours: Dinner hours every 2nd Wednesday of the month. You don’t have to be available for every event. We need a few chefs that can give their time to volunteer. If you have your business-your business materials will be promoted at the event and on social media and website.
Location: VFW Hall at 32 Edward Street, Patchogue NY
Key Responsibilities: * Must be an experienced Chef with at least 3 years’ experience * Plan and prepare three main dishes and sides * Have knowledge and experience cooking healthy dishes. * Have a food management certification or in the process of getting one. * Food safety is very important, and you must follow all the rules given by the Suffolk County Health Department. * Passion for food and for giving to others. * Positive attitude and a friendly personality.
Reports to President of Harmony Café
The Length of Appointment: The 2nd Wednesday of the month-dinner starts at 5:30 and the event ends at 8 PM. Time to prepare is available that afternoon and many times the night before the event. You don't have to stay until the end of the event. Once the food is prepared and served by 645 PM. 6:45 would be the latest.
Time Commitment: Min is at least one event from April to Dec 2020
Qualifications: Three years’ experience cooking for groups of people. We will require two to three references. Support: You will have prep help and clean up. Clean up will be done by other volunteers. Volunteer servers will be serving our guests.
