We are committed to patient safety and assuring that no patient dies alone. A Vigil Care Volunteer supports the plan of care for the hospice patient, to ensure patient safety and to provide a presence and support to the patient when death is imminent. Vigil Care is implemented to provide support to the caregiver/family members who feel overwhelmed or scared when death of their loved one is imminent.

Vigil Care Volunteers may come in hours or days before death. If the vigil is long, the vigil staff and volunteers may take shifts if the patient or family wants someone there continuously. Vigil Care Volunteers are asked to document using volunteer documentation tools. If you think you have what it takes to be a death vigil volunteer, contact us today!

Vigil Care may include:

  • Providing a calm physical presence
  • Sitting together
  • Talking and listening
  • Shared silence
  • Healing touch
  • Reading of scripture or inspirational text
  • Requested rituals
  • Inspirational music
  • Physical care by licensed skilled nurses or certified nursing assistants

Mission Statement

The mission of Colorado Palliative & Hospice Care is to provide the highest level of comfort and care, honoring and respecting the dignity of each individual, and enhancing the quality of living at the end of life, under the guidance of Christian principles.

Description

Colorado Palliative & Hospice Care is a community based organization dedicated to palliative and hospice care. We are focused on meeting or exceeding our patients’ individual medical, emotional and spiritual needs, while making each remaining moment as meaningful as possible.

While Medicare mandates the minimum services that hospice patients must receive, at Colorado Palliative & Hospice Care, we are committed to exceeding industry standards because we recognize that each patient’s life experiences and spiritual beliefs have created a unique individual who deserves the finest care and emotional support, while honoring and respecting their needs and wishes.

Every team member and volunteer is encouraged to go beyond what is required and help all patients and their families enjoy the highest possible quality of life in the precious time they have together.

We provide compassionate care and expert pain management to people nearing the end of their lives, as well as supporting their families and friends. Our approach is holistic, with a team of professionals serving patient’s medical, emotional and spiritual needs.
