An 11th Hour / Vigil Volunteer supports the care plan for the hospice patient who wants someone to be with them when death is imminent. As an 11th Hour / Vigil Volunteer you provide support to the patient and caregiver/family members by being present at bedside.
You may come in hours or days before death. and If the vigil is long, the vigil staff and volunteers take shifts if the patient or family wants someone present.
Vigil Care may include:
- Providing a calm physical presence
- Sitting together
- Talking and listening
- Shared silence
- Healing touch
- Reading of scripture or inspirational text
- Requested rituals
- Inspirational music
If vigil volunteering feels like your calling, please contact CJ Pharr at cpharr@coloradophc.com or 720-390-1276 for more information.
