Fostering is providing a temporary home for a dog for anywhere from 1-3 weeks of time.

Time commitment: We ask that you foster with us for as long as possible (until the dog is adopted), but if you have say a vacation coming up or you can only foster for a period of time, we can work with that, and you can bring them to stay for a few days. Some people foster for only 1-3 weeks. We can work with what you are able to commit to.

Supplies: We provide all supplies you need. If you need something more, let us know or ask if we have it!

Vet Bills: Dogs are all screened by the vet before going to foster homes. Most dogs will be neutered/spayed before going home, but sometimes some dogs might need more care for a week or so (increase their weight).

Shots/Dewormer/Flea Meds: All dogs have their shots, dewormer, and flea meds before going home. If you need more of anything, or if you notice anything wrong with the dog's stool, text us immediately and we'll get it taken care of!

You will not have to pay for anything. Some fosters like to buy extra supplies for their dogs to use - we aren't able to provide compensation for this unfortunately (we're super low on funding!), but you are welcome to do this if you'd like.

Requirements:
- everyone in household agrees to fostering
- keeping dogs primarily indoors

Dogs who especially need fostering:
- shy dogs
- senior dogs
- high-energy dogs
- puppies
- long-term stayers (3+ months at the rescue)

To start, apply at www.vida4animals.org/foster-application/
Must be 18 or older to apply - please have a parent apply if you are under.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to protect and help dogs and cats from homelessness neglect, abuse, cruelty and abandonment. VIDA does not belong to any one person but instead to all of its volunteers. We adopt out about 50-60 cats and dogs per month - we rescue dogs from high-kill shelters, low income neighborhoods, and from the streets of Mexico. We also have spay and neuter operations and have saved thousands of animals already. www.vida4animals.org www.instagram.com/vidarescue www.facebook.com/vidarescue

Description

Volunteers in Defense of Animals is a non-profit organization working to end the suffering and mistreatment of dogs and cats in Southern California. We bring spay and neuter services to areas where families cannot afford them; we facilitate the rescue, foster care, and adoption of animals whenever possible, and we offer education and support to those involved in the care of animals.

We have found forever homes for hundreds of dogs and cats, with around 4-5 new adoptions taking place each week. Many of our dogs come from local high-kill shelters before they are euthanized and on the streets of both the US and Mexico. We also have spay/neuter operations in low-income neighborhoods in the US and in Mexico and have spayed/neutered thousands of pets.
