Join the City of Carlsbad for a unique volunteer opportunity to teach the city’s award-winning program, CityStuff, to Carlsbad 3 rd graders about how local government works using engaging, hands-on activities.

Your involvement will enrich your knowledge of local government. Find out how fun and rewarding your participation can be as the 3rd graders experience democracy in action and learn about their city through you!

Volunteers are provided with the materials, training and support to present five, one-hour lessons to a third-grade class in Carlsbad. The program culminates with a sixth lesson at the Council Chamber where the students present a mock council meeting about saving or cutting down an 80-year-old tree. Each student has a part in the presentation as the Mayor, Council Members, local experts or residents.

Volunteers are paired to a 3 rd grade classroom in Carlsbad with lessons presented during a one-hour session during the school day in the morning or afternoon. The city if currently seeking volunteers to attend training on March 16 and begin in a classroom by April 1.

Be part of something special in your community!
