AmeriCorps members will work together with our staff teams throughout History Colorado to provide direct support by giving educational tours to visitors, assisting in museum operations, and in the planning and implementation of programs, talks, and activities. AmeriCorps members will also help in researching sustainability of these programs.
Additional duties could include:
Provide capacity building support though promotional activities, evaluation, program planning and research
Facilitate Hands on History programs
Provide off and on-site tours
Assist with educational camp and afterschool programs
Coordinate the Bridging Borders program (a hands-on project that enables participating teens to reconnect with the stories, knowledge and practices of women who helped to build our community.)
Facilitate school programs
Maintain school program materials
The AmeriCorps members will be able to develop their skills in historical interpretation, instruction, and curriculum development, while gaining a fundamental understanding of museum operations. Members must be enthusiastic, hardworking, with excellent organizational and communication skills, have either formal or informal experience working with children ages 5 to 16, and have a desire to learn about education in a museum setting.
At its heart, History Colorado fosters cultural understanding, preserves and protects the physical, cultural, and emotional places that are important to our communities, and encourages appreciation of what makes Colorado, Colorado. AmeriCorps members will help with making that work possible.
AmeriCorps Member Perks include:
- Living stipend of $6,875 during the term of service
- Education award of $3,097.50 to be used for current educational expenses, to repay qualified student loans, or to be used within 7 years for educational expenses
- Deferment of existing student loans during the K2H term of service
- Repayment of interest accrued on qualified student loans during the K2H term of service
- Hands-on experience in the field of K-12 education, higher education, civic learning and engagement, community development, and youth development
