BOARD MEMBER RECRUITMENT

The East Bay Photo Collective (EBPCO) is a Bay Area arts education non-profit. Our mission is to provide facilities, education, inspiration, and community to East Bay photographers, including those who are under-served or lack access to a creative community. EBPCO incorporated as a non-profit in 2017 and each year organizes over 30 photography-related events, most of which are free and open to everyone. We have over 100 paid members, a 300-person mailing list, and over 500 members of our Facebook group.

The next step in our path is to create a community photo arts center in Oakland, CA., the East Bay Photo Center. The new center will include a gallery, workshops, darkrooms, and other facilities. Programs will include adult workshops, artist seminars, and youth arts programs. The proposed East Bay Photo Center will quickly become an important cultural institution in the Bay Area.

We are looking for board members who are excited about the chance to build a cultural institution from the ground up. Creative spaces are under threat in the Bay Area, but this is a chance to reverse the tide and really make a difference in Bay Area arts and culture.

Our small and dedicated working board gathers monthly. Our board members are directly involved in the operation of EBPCO, everything from strategic planning to stuffing envelopes. While joining a small board can be demanding, there are also clear benefits! We communicate well and really get to know each other, and hands-on involvement provides a high level of satisfaction. Most importantly: every board member counts.

Experience is important, but also commitment, enthusiasm, and vision. If you’ve got ideas about how to preserve and encourage arts in the Bay Area, EBPCO is the place where you can put them into action.
