Greeters at Work
A Washington Square Park volunteer greeter assists a park user.

WSPC is accepting new volunteers into its Greeter-Guide Program, a program where you interact with Park users, helping them learn about the exciting horticulture, history, events, and culture that the Park has to offer. From our resident hawks to the historic Arch, the Park has many stories to be told!

The WSPC Greeter-Guide Program provides an opportunity for interested volunteers to become an official Washington Square Park Docent. All guides are greeters, but not all greeters choose to participate in the additional training and orientation needed to become a guide.

Greeter-Guides work weekend shifts from April-October. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until 4/14. Volunteers will be notified by 4/19. Orientations will take place in April.

Description

Washington Square Park is beloved open space in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Spanning 9.75 acres, this iconic Park with its signature arch designed by Stanford White and dramatic central fountain is one of Manhattan’s most popular landmarks. The Park serves many functions for a diverse usership, acting as critical green space, a village square, playground, concert hall, reading room, gym, campus quad, theater, and more. And it’s busy! The Park hosts 12 million visits a year, making Washington Square the busiest Park per square foot in all of NYC. You can make a difference by lending a hand at our monthly clean-ups, bringing your corporate team for a morning of giving back, or commit to a longer volunteer experience through our Greeter/Guide, Washington Square Waterers, and Clean Team volunteer programs.
