Special Events Intern for Students of the Year Campaign, Honolulu

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is recruiting intern candidates for the Students of the Year campaign in Honolulu. Students of the Year is a 7-week long philanthropic competition between local high school students. Selected interns will gain valuable experience in the areas of: non-profit management and operations, development and fundraising, marketing, and community relations. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary healthcare organization dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers. Its mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Join us as we grow this exciting program in Honolulu!

Basic Function: Performs diverse projects and activities for the Students of the Year campaign to support and bring awareness to LLS.

Work Direction: Works under the direction, supervision, and training of the Students of the Year staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high level of customer service and serve as an extension of staff
  • Assist with management of stewardship projects
  • Prepare assigned campaign correspondence and reports, including contributing to a monthly newsletter, pulling and analyzing reports for Student Series staff, and help to create email correspondence.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission and its programs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

An ideal candidate must:

  • Have knowledge of the Island of Oahu, specifically in-depth knowledge of geographical territory in Honolulu and outlying areas.
  • Possess a High School diploma
  • Be responsible, flexible, motivated, hard-working, ethical, and committed to the mission of LLS
  • Possess a high level of organization skills and be detail oriented
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills
  • Possess a variety of computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Possess basic design skills
  • Be able to work efficiently with limited supervision
  • Be able to operate standard office equipment (fax, copier, postage machine)
  • Possess an interest in a nonprofit or health-related career - particularly in development and fundraising

Students currently enrolled towards a degree in or having prior experience in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: hospitality, communication, non-profit leadership, marketing and/or business.

Internship positions are available year-round working approximately 10-20 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Internships are unpaid. Some evenings and weekends, and local travel are required. Equal Opportunity Employer.

Description

The National Capital Chapter is in need of Volunteers for the IHOP National Pancake Day happening on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at DMV area IHOPS. On National Pancake Day, Tuesday February 25th IHOP will be giving away a free short stack of pancakes to all of its customers. In lieu of payment for the pancakes, IHOP is asking every customer to make a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Volunteers are needed to facilitate that ask by going table-to-table asking for donations. RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS: Be outgoing, charismatic, and engaged. This is not a passive volunteer role.
