Help STOP invasive species! Join SVC’s "Weed The People" for a few hours of invasive weed removal. Tools, training and snacks provided to all volunteers. Please wear layers, sun protection, wide-brimmed hat, dress for weather and bring your own water bottle. Please bring work gloves, weeding tools, a shovel, and knee pads or short step stool if you have them. A flat-head screwdriver is especially helpful!

WHY? Deer Creek Hills preserve (DCH) exists in large part to the cattle grazing operation, which pays for operating cost of the property. This translates directly into the long-term maintenance of DCH. Onion grass and thistle can significantly reduce the productivity of pastures and animal systems, making it a costly agricultural weed. If rangeland quality is compromised by so too is the value of the cattle lease.

Help stop the spread of Onion Grass and other invasives !

  • Driving - do not drive off the road.
  • Hiking - clean your shoes before going out into nature, bag your shoes at the end of the hike, clean your shoes when you are home and destroy or dispose of all seeds.
  • Equestrian - clean out your trailer and the horse’s hooves before and after your ride. Do not bring hay or straw out into the field, it is a common vector of unwanted weeds, use pellets instead.
  • Cycling - clean your tire treads, gears, shoes and brakes before and after rides.

Mission Statement

Sacramento Valley Conservancy’s mission is to preserve the beauty, character and biodiversity of the Sacramento Valley landscape by protecting and stewarding natural and working lands, and scenic open spaces for the benefit of current and future generations.

Description

The Sacramento Valley Conservancy was founded in 1990 on two basic principles: that open lands are necessary for quality of life and that we must care for the land today so future generations may enjoy its physical and spiritual benefits tomorrow. Through the support of our loyal members and institutional and corporate supporters (like you!), the Conservancy grows every day to meet our community’s current regional needs to save land for future generations. To date, SVC has protected more than 17,584 acres!
