$3 million facility serving AR/OK cancer survivors

The Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House is a volunteer driven facility providing non-medical support to over a 1000 cancer survivors - both the newly diagnosed and those long time survivors. Volunteers are the life blood of this organization and have allowed the support house to meet increased needs for services at the new expanded facility. Orientation provided on-site.

Support House Staff Volunteers are needed to serve a four hour shift each week (either 9am-1pm or 1-5pm). They will greet and register cancer patients, help cancer survivors with wigs and other supplies, answer the phone, make reminder calls to support group members and assist with fundraising and educational events.

In addition to partnering with over 100 local non-profit organizations, WestArk RSVP manages its own program - RSVP COmmunity Outreach - which provide direct assistance to the community.

Description

RSVP Community Outreach is providing free, one-on-one assistance to people with Medicare and their families via face-to-face sessions, public education presentations and other programs.

Volunteers assist Medicare beneficiaries in applying for federal Low-Income subsidy (LIS) and the Arkansas Medicare Savings Programs; problem solving snafus with Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services and private insurers; and counseling new Medicare beneficiaries. Volunteers prepare federal LIS and state MSB applications and aid in accessing information on the www.Medicare.gov website. Over forty percent of the adults over age 60 in our community have difficulty with the paperwork required by applications for social safety net programs because of illiteracy, vision problems or comprehension problems due to illness.
