The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is seeking volunteers to visit socially isolated older adults who need companionship.
Purpose: Build a meaningful relationship with a socially isolated person. This service helps allow that person to age in place. It also offers their families/caregivers a respite break. No direct care! No transporting the client, toileting, or bathing them! Chat, tell stories, play card games, watch TV, go for a walk together.
Qualifications: Polite and friendly, compassionate, is willing to take 2-4 hours of training relevant to working with older adults, can pass a background check, has their own vehicle for transportation. No experience required.
Timeframe: 2 hours a week for at least 6 months. Exceptions for vacations and special occasions are always possible- advanced notice is appreciated! Schedule is completely up to you and the family you are matched with.
Location of work: Anywhere in Washtenaw County. We pick families as geographically close as possible when matching volunteers to families.
Volunteers must be age 55 or better to apply. Provide your phone number when applying.Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (734) 971-9781 ext. 364
