Spark Los Angeles empowers middle school students by providing access to career exploration and mentorship opportunities outside of the classroom that inspires them to pursue what’s possible.

We are seeking an innovative Program & Events Intern for Spring 2020 from February 24, 2020 to June 30, 2020 . This position will be located in a lively DTLA co-working space with convenient access to public transportation. This is a flexible unpaid internship with a maximum of 20 hours per week.

An ideal candidate will be eager and energetic, possess a passion for mission driven work, have a go-getter mentality, and thrive in a community-oriented office environment. This unique internship is an opportunity to expand your project management, leadership, and fundraising skills. Individuals who have some experience organizing events, particularly for social change/nonprofit causes, who would like to add to their portfolio are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to Development Team
    • Correspond with corporate partners and school partner sites
    • General clerical work when needed
    • Assist with marketing brand awareness to grow Spark Los Angeles’ reach.
    • Help manage compelling social media campaigns via Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Serve as lead on two of Spark’s major events in May 2020:
    • Share Your Spark - with over 500+ attendees, this culminating program event brings together students, mentors, our school and corporate partners, and community-based partners to showcase the projects Spark Students have been working on in the spring.
    • Spark the Summer - this annual event, which is primarily to raise money for Spark, is designed to engage our corporate partners, social networks, individual supporters, and advocates to raise awareness of Spark's program and accomplishments.

Qualifications

  • Be available February 24, 2020 through June 30,2020 .
  • Be able to work up to 20 hours per week (work times are flexible with remote work capabilities)
  • Previous event planning experience
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
