Introduction
CHEER is an innovative and growing community-based nonprofit serving the Long Branch/Takoma Park community. We act as a facilitator and a catalyst in generating community driven activities to fulfill community defined goals
Activities
Learn about CHEER programs and activities and help them grow! This opportunity invites the fundraising planning volunteer to take the lead in developing fundraising plans which help increase sustainable donor support for CHEER. Write strategic fundraising plans which build donor support and engage donors creatively to increase financial support for CHEER projects and activities
Impact of Fundraising Planner
Funds received as a result of the fundraising plans directly benefit:
* Accessible and Healthy Food - provides 12 weeks of produce and health advice for participants who have Type II diabetes and are also food insecure
* Assess to the Affordable Care Act - State of Maryland and Montgomery County discontinued funding, new funds are needed to continue serving local residents
* Summer Youth Program - provides free lunches and engaging activities for youth (MCPS provides the lunches). Some funds provided by Montgomery County
* Housing and Community Development: funds raised expands on 'seed’ funds CHEER received to prepare the Long Branch community for the new Purple Line station
* Giving Tuesday and the End of Year Fund Appeal - a plan is needed for these two campaigns, which take place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and by the end of the year so that general funds can be raised to meet emerging needs and projects
* Takoma Park Folk Festival in September and the Takoma Park Street Fair in October of each year are opportunities to raise funds which can be improved
B ackground/Experience Needed
The volunteer need to be a good, clear oral and written communicators. The volunteer needs to be a strategic thinker and able to develop plans related to fundraising. The Volunteer may choose, but is/are not required, to be directly involved in composing fundraising materials or implementing the plans
Number of Volunteers Needed, Time Commitment, Volunteer Location
At least one fundraising planner is needed. Hours are variable depending on availability and dates of fundraising. Plans can be developed at home, anytime, or in the CHEER office, during the day

Description
CHEER promotes civic participation in the Takoma Park and Long Branch community. We provide a framework for community improvement and provide training and support for people to participate, especially among those who are under represented and under served.
We help the Takoma Park and Long Branch community fulfill their goals:
Economic Opportunity
- Connect community members to resources that bring economic opportunity to all
- Support community friendly business development and local entrepreneurship
Reducing Health Disparities
- Connect community members to health care and wellness activities
- Inventory community health assets & gaps
- Coordinate the Health Enterprise Zone, a coalition of local healthcare providers
Housing
- Assess housing affordability
- Facilitate neighborhood improvement efforts
- Develop residents’ leadership skills
Community Connections
- Organize events to connect people of diverse backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities
Children, Youth and Families
- Participate in Takoma Park Youth Collaborative to develop and conduct programs that support youth to successfully transition to adulthood
