Watsonville Wetlands Watch is excited to offer our first Spring Docent Training!

Participants in this 4-week program will be treated to an inside look at the Pajaro Valley and its unique network of freshwater wetlands and receive education and training from experts in how they can contribute to environmental education, outreach, and restoration of these rare and vital ecosystems. Docent trainees will learn about the natural and cultural history of the wetlands while having fun with professionals and other volunteers committed to community education and environmental conservation.

No prior experience is necessary, we welcome folks with all levels of knowledge. Our Interactive training sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm and Saturday mornings from 9am-12pm. Our 4-week training will run from Wednesday, March 18th through Saturday, April 11th. Anyone interested can sign up on our website https://www.watsonvillewetlandswatch.org by clicking Events.

For questions and more information contact our Volunteer Coordinator Noelle Fletcher at noelle@watsonvillewetlandswatch.org or 831-455-6771. We hope you'll join us!

About WATSONVILLE WETLANDS WATCH

Location:

PO BOX 1239, FREEDOM, CA 95019, US

Mission Statement

Watsonville Wetlands Watch is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and fostering of appreciation of the wetlands of the Pajaro Valley, especially involving members of the Watsonville community and the students of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.

Description

Watsonville Wetlands Watch advocates for wetland issues, educates elementary, middle, and high school students, restores degraded habitats, preserves what remains whole, and teaches appreciation for the unique beauty and life of the Pajaro Valley wetlands. In cooperation with numerous other agencies, we also support studies of and planning for these sites.

Since 1991 our organization has publicized the importance of the sloughs through public meetings, newspaper articles and the publication of our award winning book, "Watching the Watsonville Wetlands: An Armchair Guide to the Watsonville Slough System" and by advocating for the sloughs before local governmental agencies.

We work with local schools to educate students about the value of the wetlands through a variety of hands-on outdoor and in class environmental education programs, by serving as a resource for teachers, and by providing unique placed based educational materials to be used in the classroom.

We also conduct environmental restoration programs throughout the Watsonville Slough System and the greater Pajaro Valley that benefit wildlife, water quality, natural habitats, and the natural resources of the Pajaro Valley. Through these programs, thousands of community members volunteer their time to restore wetlands and native habitats on public and private lands and in our native plant nursery.
