What is the Lantern Festival?

Pacific Symphony and South Coast Chinese Cultural Center/Irvine Chinese School join in presenting this FREE, family-friendly festival to commemorate the end of the Lunar New Year with music, dance, art making, riddles and food. The Lantern Festival provides children and their families the opportunity to participate in activities ranging from lantern-making, listening to live music, taking Chinese folk dance lessons, and more at this celebration.

What are the volunteer opportunities?

Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in many roles such as Activity Booth Attendants (lantern-making, crafts, playing musical instruments, etc.), Performing Group Liaisons (helping the performers on-off the stage, Translators and Greeters.

When and where is the Lantern Festival?

This year’s Lantern Festival takes place on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the RenĂ©e and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa. The time commitment for volunteers is 8:00am - 4:30pm, however, there many be an opportunity for shortened shifts for some of the volunteer roles.

Are there any special skills needed to volunteer?

All volunteers are welcome, and no musical experience is required to volunteer for this opportunity. However, we do seek some volunteers who can speak and/or read Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Korean.

What is the age requirement to volunteer?

For the Lantern Festival, volunteers must be 14 years or older. Any volunteer that is between the age of 14-15 must be accompanied by their parent/guardian. Any volunteer between the age of 16-18 will require a signed permission form from their parent/guardian.

Do volunteers earn community service hours?

If volunteering for the entire festival, the Lantern Festival counts for 8 hours of high school community service.
