Join Us to help Sound the Alarm in the Larimer Area of Pittsburgh. We will install smoke detectors and help save lives!
Home fires are the most frequent disaster, claiming seven lives every day. But having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half. That is why we are rallying 27,000 volunteers to fundraise and install 100,000 free smoke alarms nationwide during Sound the Alarm events. This spring we will install free smoke alarms, share safety information in at-risk communities and fundraise to help families prepare for, respond to and recover from home fires. One day of your life can change others forever. Join us in Pittsburgh, PA. Event will be held rain or shine!
1) Volunteer Safety Educator on Install Team: Educates the family on fire safety and assists with completing a disaster plan while the smoke alarms are being installed. This volunteer should be comfortable speaking with a wide variety of individuals.
2) Volunteer Smoke Alarm Installer on Install Team: Installs smoke alarms in homes during the canvassing event. This volunteer should be comfortable using a small step ladder and a power drill, screw driver, hammer, etc.
3) Volunteer Documentor on Install Team: Records information about each home and the number of alarms installed. This person should be comfortable completing basic paperwork.
4) Base Camp Registration team - Helps get volunteers registered as they arrive at the meeting place. This volunteer should be comfortable greeting volunteers, instructing them how to get registered, and answer some basic questions they may have.
5) Base Camp Helper - General help around the base camp. Help setup, take down, serve lunch, replenish snacks, etc.
6) Team Captains - Captains are assigned between 5 to 7 teams and they keep them supplied with smoke detectors, snacks, water, etc. This volunteer must be cleared to drive a Red Cross car, have a drivers license, and be able to drive around the various streets his/her teams are assigned and service the volunteer teams. Training for all the above roles will be conducted the day of the rally.
