BACKGROUND AND PROGRAM SCOPE
Neighborhood House partners with diverse individuals and families to build community and achieve their
goals for health, education and self-sufficiency. The Neighborhood House Family Resource Center provides
a variety of services to the High Point community. At Neighborhood House, we have a deep commitment
to valuing our employees’, volunteers’, and clients’ diverse experiences and backgrounds, which guide our
work for a more equitable future.
Several community members are taking courses towards becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or
a Home Care Aide, and could benefit from tutoring in these subjects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Clarifying basic text and conversing with the student.
* Create or use flash cards to quiz the student.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Ability to work with adult learners in a kind and patient manner
* Interest in working with diverse communities
* Ability to make a consistent weekly commitment
* College degree preferred
* Experience with CNA and/or Home Care Aide requirements a plus
TIMEFRAME
Students will likely request one or more weekdays, from 1p - 4p. However, specific dates and times will
be scheduled around the individual availability of tutors, students, and the availability of space at the High
Point Family Center

We provide free services that are culturally and linguistically relevant to immigrants, refugees, public housing residents, and low-income community members in King County. Neighborhood House was founded in Seattle by the National Council of Jewish Women in 1906, and for 114 years has fought to end the cycles of poverty, racism, and social inequities.
We want to lift children out of poverty. We want them to be healthy and ready to be successful in school and life. We want these children grow up in safe and supportive homes and neighborhoods.
We want to lift families out of poverty by creating opportunities for economic self-sufficiency and asset building.
We want seniors to live healthy, independent lives with respect and dignity, surrounded by friends and a supportive community.
We want to build strong and vibrant communities where everyone feels an attachment to their neighbors and neighborhood, where they work together to solve problems and celebrate their cultural diversity.
And finally, we want to create a greener, more sustainable community where low income families live in neighborhoods that are free of pollution and buffered from rising energy costs.
