Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation and the Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation come together every summer for Camp Independent Firefly (CIF). CIF is one of the most popular and effective ways in which children, ages 7 to 17, have the opportunity to experience summer fun in a medically supervised setting.

Our camp volunteer program attracts a diverse group of individuals ranging in age and background. We are looking for high-energy, creative volunteers, with a desire to make a difference in the life of a child with cancer or a bleeding disorder. We seek volunteers who are leaders, prepared to work hard, care for others, be responsible, build relationships with campers and other staff members, and have the best week of their lives! Now for the fun and factual part of camp: In 2021 CIF will take place Sunday-Saturday, June 13-19 2021 at Camp Whittle in Big Bear, CA. * Volunteers are required to commit to the entire week of camp. * Volunteers must be 20 years of age before they arrive to camp. * Background check required for all volunteers. * Volunteers are required to check in on Monday, June 14th by 8:00am and will leave Saturday afternoon, June 19th, time TBD.

NOTE: in the interest of the safety of our immune compromised kiddos we will be making a decision on March 31 whether to proceed with in person programming or another virtual camp. We'll need high energy and engaging volunteers either way!

AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS Counselors: Assigned to a cabin with 2-3 co-counselors, responsible for a cabin of campers the entire week. Activity Specialists: Assignments vary, assistance with activities, both day and/or night, laundry detail, arts/crafts area, relieve counselors for breaks, general camp admin, and other fun camp duties!
