Volunteers go out with our staff and collect samples from the Red River and Wild Rice River. Samples are collected twice a month from April to October. Samples are sent to North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality for analysis. Data is posted online for public viewing on the DEQ's website.

If you want to see what this process looks like you can watch this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukDEivjDxQ4

Sampling lasts 4 hours. Volunteers meet at River Keepers office at 8:15 a.m. We also schedule a backup weather date the following day in case of inclement weather, ice or excessive winds so please consider that when choosing a date.

You will meet staff at our office located in North Fargo and head out in River Keepers vehicle. Please dress for the weather (we are not blocked from the wind as we sample from bridges), wear sunscreen, and bring water.
