Do you enjoy working outside in the beautiful spring weather? Would you like to make a difference in the life of an elder or someone with a long-term health concern? If you answered, "Yes" to either of these questions, sign up to volunteer for Good Neighbor Saturday. You will be assigned to either wash windows (outside), clean gutters, or do yard work for a fellow community member. The event takes place on Saturday, May 9 th, 2020 from 8:00am to 12:00pm and is being organized byVolunteers in Action. Volunteers are invited gather at 8:00am for free breakfast. Volunteers will work in the community from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Contact Britta Willson at 541-387-6404 or Brittany.willson@providence.org by March 30 th to sign up.

Volunteers in Action is a program of Providence Hood River which recruits and trains volunteers to provide social support to older adults and people with disabilities in Hood River and Klickitat Counties. We are building a health community one healthy relationship at a time.

Description

Get to know an older adult in our area. Volunteers in Action is a fun and easy way to help your neighbors, get to know the history of our area, and make friends outside your age group.

Volunteers provide the following free services:

  • Transportation
  • Grocery shopping with or for someone
  • Respite care & friendly visiting
  • Light housekeeping, like dishes and vacuuming
  • Minor home repairs and yard work
  • Meal preparation
  • Library services
  • Attend arts education & social events with care recipients

Opportunities to serve are flexible and easy to fit into your schedule. Volunteers complete training, a TB blood test, and a background check before serving.
