An Evening with Sherlock Holmes

On Saturday, February 29 from 7-10pm, WGBH will host An Evening Inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Our studio will be transformed into jolly old London, a great cesspool into which all kinds of criminals, agents, and drifters are drained. Sometimes it’s not a question of who, it’s a question of who knows. Crime is common, but logic is rare, so guests must rely on reasoning in their travels around our studios gathering clues and uncovering the mysteries of the year’s extra day. The evening will include conversation with local experts, puzzles and brainteasers to test the talents of geniuses, as well as Sherlock-inspired cocktails and bite-sized treats. Take on Sherlock’s fashion alongside his mind and adorn your best guard’s jacket and blue scarf to suit the occasion.

Position Descriptions
(Volunteers must be 21+ years of age):

Registration (Lobby) 6-10pm
Tickets will be sold at the door; $55 Members and $75 non-Members. Registration volunteers will check people’s names off an RSVP list using an iPad and will distribute program schedules.

Glass Door Greeters (Glass Doors between Lobby and Atrium area) 6:30-10:30pm
Greeters will welcome guests as they arrive and will hold the glass doors open for guests as they enter the Atrium. Greeters should also be able to direct guests to restrooms, Fraser Performance Studio, and towards the Mojo photo booth.

Fraser Greeters - 6:30-10:30pm
Two door guards will be positioned outside of Fraser Performance Studio to direct guests to restrooms and to answer basic timeline questions.

Glass Pick-up (volunteers should wear all black) 6:15-10:30pm
Ensure dirty glasses are promptly removed from waiter trays and highboy table tops at all times using your wicker basket to collect dirty, empty glasses. Take dirty glasses to the loading dock and place in the tray holder for return.

Photographer - 6:30-10:30pm
Take pictures to capture the "personality" of the event, including speakers and guests. Please also take shots of volunteers in action, and our host/emcee addressing the crowd. We’d like shots from the bridge overlooking the Atrium space, too.

Mojo Photo Booth Line Manager - 6:30-10:30pm
Ensure guests are lining up correctly for photo booth opportunity; line should form by elevators leading to an 8 ft. table where costume dress-up elements are situated in front of Studio B entrance.

TIPS Certified Pourer 6:15-10:30pm
Replenish glasses as needed at your respective stations. Pour wine or assist a Cocktail Guru while they prepare two signature cocktails.

Mystery Player - 6:15-10:30pm
This volunteer will play a very active "role" in Fraser Performance Studio. Attendees will be asked to solve a crime using Sherlockian methods. The Mystery Player will be stationed at a table featuring evidence that pertains to the character/suspect he/she is playing that is part of the overarching mystery. Our Mystery Players must be comfortable projecting their voice to large groups of people (up to 20 attendees at any given time) as they provide their first-hand account or connection to the overall crime to ensure guests understand the evidence that pertains to their character. Volunteers in this role will be given a sheet of speaking points or clues in advance to convey to event attendees and will provide them with an overview of the evidence at their specific station so they completely understand how it connects to the crime. Attendees filter through Fraser Performance Studio all night so this is an active and high energy volunteer position for the duration of the night. Candidates with previous acting/improv experience preferred (please list).

M16 Command Center - 6:30-10:30pm
Score results as event guests provide their completed mystery sheets.

Fingerprinting Line Manager - 6:30-10:30pm
Manage line of guests queued up to have their fingerprints analyzed. Make sure lines don't block traffic flow.

Food Host - 6:15-10:30pm
Ensure food tables are kept clean and tidy. Replenish food when needed with fresh platters of appetizers and snacks. Pick up trash as needed from tables.
