OVERVIEW
The Exhibition Media Volunteer will support the Exhibitions Department in reviewing content created by visitors. Visitor-generated content includes written messages, audio and video recordings, and online registry profiles. The work will provide the volunteer with the opportunity to contribute to the historical documentation of 9/11 and its ongoing legacy, to be introduced to the process of researching and evaluating media content for exhibition and/or online displays, and to work alongside a diversity of museum professionals including content developers, media producers, digital developers, curators, researchers, and designers.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Museum exhibitions include an array of dynamic media experiences that are regularly updated with new visitor-generated content. These experiences include a digital guestbook with visitor messages, an audiovisual program with visitor video recordings, and touchscreen kiosks with stories of those impact by 9/11 attacks and 1993 WTC bombing. The volunteer’s primary focus will be to review content created by visitors in the Museum and identify submissions that have the potential for inclusion in exhibitions and related programming.
Tasks include:
- Review written and recorded content submitted by visitors in the Museum and identify submissions for exhibition display.
- Tag recordings with keywords in a database that can help current and future historical research for exhibitions on display in the Museum.
- Listen to and transcribe interviews recorded with a wide range of individuals recalling their own 9/11 experiences and sharing their thoughts on the continuing significance of 9/11.
