Position: Grant Writer

Open Arms is actively recruiting volunteers who are passionate about combating poverty, championing at-risk populations, and pursuing life-transforming experiences. Open Arms provides basic relief services to individuals struggling with homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless in the Logan Square community of Chicago. For the Grant Writer position, Open Arms is seeking individuals to provide support in drafting, submitting, and monitoring financial grant proposals.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals;
  • Perform research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospective grants;
  • Monitor grant compliance as required by donors;
  • Track and maintain accurate records of potential grants and grant proposals; and
  • Build and maintain lasting relationships with potential donor

Prospective Grant Writers should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to operate independently as well as in a collaborative setting. Prior experience managing grants is a bonus. Grant Writers will work closely with Open Arm’s Executive Director and a team of volunteers.

Time Commitment: 3 to 5 hours per week.

Description

Open Arms Ministry has two programs addressing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity on the northwest side of Chicago.

DROP-IN

Open Arms Drop-In provides basic relief services to individuals struggling with homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. More than relief from the weather outside, this drop-in program enables those who come to share a meal with friends and get connected to resources.

Guests also receive help meeting physical needs like clothing, toiletries, and basic healthcare. Referrals are available for services such as overnight shelter, recovery, and education.

FOOD PANTRY

Working in conjunction with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Open Arms Food Pantry serves families and individuals who live in the area bounded by Irving Park, Fullerton, Pulaski, and Western.

All are welcome (proof of address required), including those who have experienced job loss, illness in the family, unexpected expenses, and more.
