By signing up to be a Freedom Driver, you are signing up to change someone's life.
Thousands of individuals in Richland and Lexington counties lack reliable transportation for trips to the doctor or to the grocery store. Some may even need an occasional ride to work. With your help, we can help people get to places that they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.
Veterans like Mark, who lives on the outskirts of Lexington county, who had to choose between paying for his groceries and getting a taxi to go pick-up his prescriptions. Mark lost his ability to drive 8 years ago when he lost his right leg to an IED (roadside bomb) during his second tour of duty in Iraq. Because of generous amazing people like you, men and women in the Columbia area who served our country will not have to choose between keeping food on their table and living a month in extreme pain.
What is a Freedom Driver?
As a Freedom Driver, your mission is providing people the freedom through mobility with the freedom to drive when and where you want. We will improve transportation for those in need in your own community. Together, we can create lasting changes through accessibility one mile at a time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide rides in your community and receive paid mileage ($.58/mile)
- Having positive interactions with your passengers.
- Ensure the safety of your passengers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Desire to help others
- Reliable personal vehicle
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid car insurance
- Valid car registration
- Able to pass a background check
- Smartphone

Description
Right now, in your community, there are people who have no way to get to the doctor, the pharmacy, the grocery store, or work.
Here at Feonix - Mobility Rising, we help fill in the gaps in the social service ecosystem for individuals living with transportation insecurity. We’ve been collaborating with communities around the United States since 2018 to solve some of the biggest mobility challenges in our communities.
We recruit and train volunteers and work with local transportation providers to provide free or low-cost rides to people in need. We also provide online disability training (ADAPT) for transportation professionals to help make all transportation accessible to people with mobility challenges.
