ORGANIZATION: SOUTHERN MAINE AGENCY ON AGING

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

Social Engagement Leader: Plan, implement, and assure during engagement events/activities for people living with memory loss and their caregivers. Tasks include coordinating engagement activities, managing attendance, and providing hospitality and support to attendees.

Community Representative: Volunteers who engage with people to raise awareness of programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to services. Tasks include representing the Association at events, presenting key talking points, and promoting annual awareness campaigns.

Support Group Facilitator: Facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences in an effort to cope with the shared problems of dementia.

Community Educator: Volunteer public speakers who help raise awareness, provide education, and expand the reach of the program.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

Southern Maine Agency on Aging Volunteer Services provides opportunities to make a difference in the community through volunteer service. Volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, meals on wheels, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. We offer maximum flexibility and choice to our volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of the over age 55 volunteer to opportunities in selected imapct service areas to help solve community problems. RSVP volunteers receive supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where they are placed.
