Help us organize and run Unique Union, Inc.'s #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop

We invite creatives aged 6 years and older to indulge in #SelfCareSunday as we host a selection of hands-on art activities that offer a sense of calm in a community setting through crafting. We will be holding our Craft Workshops in person on the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month from 1:30pm to 3pm at Capitol View Neighborhood DC Public Library.

Unique Union, Inc. seeks Group Art Assistants to help facilitate art as therapy activities in a group setting. The groups would be no more than 15 to 20 individuals at a time, aged 6 years of age and older. These volunteers would have a strong interest in applied arts or crafts and have experience facilitating group art activities for groups of this size, especially involving children. All volunteers should attend a pre-workshop meeting that will give you the training you need to assist attendees with craft creations during the workshop and an overview of our workshop agenda. Volunteers will have the opportunity to craft the workshop item during training to ensure a proper experience for all attendees.

We are offering monthly themed #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshops to encourage a healthy mental relationship with self-expression and applied art in a safe and conscious environment. We believe that self-care is a positive habit and we use DIY projects in our creative community as a way to "put in the work" that is needed to maintain our emotional well-being. Our workshops are held in Ward 7 SE, Washington, DC in an area with a rich local history, at the Capitol View Neighborhood Public Library.

The first 5 tickets to our Craft Workshops are FREE and first come, first served. Crafters can also join us with the "Pay what You can" option (suggested $15 per craft item) -- to keep future #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop attendance free of charge for local, underserved individuals on a journey to maintain their mental health through creative well-being. This program is geared toward inner-city creatives in an underserved area of SE Washington, DC (Ward 7) in a peer and family-friendly environment.

Mission Statement

Unique Union, Inc. is a local gathering place at the intersection of urban culture, applied art, mental wellness and creative community in Ward 7 Southeast Washington, DC. Our mission is to provide meaningful, therapeutic arts programming for creatives of all ages, to educate the local community in fine arts, urban culture and mental wellness, to provide certified group art therapy to adults and youth suffering from mental illness, and to build strength in the local community.

Description

Unique Union, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed to provide a place where creatives of all abilities are encouraged to develop their full expressive potential through art. We offer a dynamic, unique, and constantly evolving program with our #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshops. Although we try to incorporate all of the fine arts into our programs, our focus is on visual and applied art. We have transformed our program to accommodate social distancing with our #SelfcareSunday Virtual Craft Workshops and Virtual Adult Mental Health First Aid Certification through the National Council of Behavioral Health (in blended format).

We plan to have the option to participate in certified group art therapy workshops. All activities are guided and enjoyed on an RSVP or walk-in basis. We are staffed by working creatives, and all structured activities will be led by master artist-teachers &/or certified art therapists. Unique Union, Inc. offers an art experience to the community that will increase awareness of the arts, create an audience for the arts, promote mental wellness for all and cannot be duplicated.
