Join Multiple City of Raleigh Departments as we host Earth Day 2020 at Dorothea Dix Park! This event is a celebration of the environment and sustainability that will have games, food, vendors, and activities for kids!
Volunteer Duties:
We need volunteers to help us make this event possible! Sign up today to make a difference. Volunteer spots are first come, first served but you can sign up for one of the following opportunities:
- Invasive Plant Removal - Join our City of Raleigh Parks Maintenance Crew as we remove some invasive plants from within the park prior to the event. These plants out compete our native species and can wreck havoc on our natural food chain. We will use handsaws, loppers, and pruners to cut down and remove the invasive plants. No experience is necessary. We will teach you.Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age. Anyone under 16 must have a parent or guardian register with them. Kids under the age of 12 will not be able to use hand tools, but will help their team by dragging and stacking what has been cut.
- Special Event Staff - Volunteers are needed to assist with activities (crafts and games), our Volunteer Drive, and general event information. This opportunity is broken up into two shifts. Volunteers must be at least 14 to volunteer.
Work Environment:
These volunteer opportunities will be outside at a large event. We will be working on uneven ground. The invasive project will be in the woods with no defined pathway. There will be port-a-johns on site. Because it is a special event there is the chance for large crowds and loud noises.
Volunteer Requirements:
The age requirements are listed with the different opportunities above. All volunteers are required to fill out a PRCR volunteer release form. Anyone under the age of 18, must have a parent or guardian sign their release form as well. We will send these out closer to the event.
PER DEPARTMENT POLICY THIS OPPORTUNITY CANNOT COUNT TOWARDS COURT-APPOINTED OR SUGGESTED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS.
