Start The Adventure In Reading (STAIR-Annapolis) is a twice-weekly, after school literacy tutoring program for AACPS second graders reading below grade level. The STAIR Site Coordinator is instrumental to the success of our organization. This is currently a virtual opportunity, however it is our plan to resume in-person tutoring, so we are only accepting local volunteers. We have 12 sites conveniently located at elementary schools and community centers across Annapolis and throughout Anne Arundel County, and have more than 100 children enrolled in our program. Site Coordinators are the leaders at their site. Are you organized, creative, and willing to be the point of communication with the other volunteers at your site, the staff, the families, and the school? This is a great volunteer opportunity for new teachers, retired teachers and reading specialists. Site Coordinators work alone or in Co-Coordinator teams to ensure each STAIR site is a safe, welcoming, organized place for fun and learning. With the recent announcement by Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) of total virtual learning through the first semester, STAIR is excited to share our programming plans for the 2020-2021 school year. The protection of our volunteers, students, and organization is our top priority, and STAIR is prepared to pivot responsibly with an impactful "Plan B" until we can safely resume one-on-one, in-person tutoring. For the fall of 2020, STAIR-Annapolis is pleased to announce STAIR At Home! Our modified reading program model is made up of three parts: INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT, BUILDING HOME LIBRARIES, and FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. This parallels our in-person program, while responding to the immediate health and safety needs in our communities. We have new opportunities for volunteers which include: STAIR Book Club Leader, STAIR Guest Reader, STAIR Pen Pal, STAIR Research Aide, and STAIR Tutorial Coach. Look for sign up instructions for training for each of these opportunities in early September. For more information or to complete an application, contact volunteer_coordinator@stairannapolis.org
