During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of both COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
The Buckingham Youth Brigade (BYB) program consists of an incredible, diverse group of teens, many of whom have grown up together. The majority of our students are immigrants or first generation, and they represent a range of ages, interests, and GPAs and each one has great potential.
Currently, BYB is seeking a volunteer Math tutor to work individually with our high school students during our weekly homework sessions. The home help sessions are held on every Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00pm (flexible timing) at the Cesar Chavez Community Center.
Although BYB's homework help sessions are casual, many of our tutors and students consider the program to be like a second family.
Note: All interested volunteers are subjected to a background check.

BU-GATA is a community-based organization that works with adults and youth to provide culturally competent advocacy, education and leadership development throughout Arlington, Virginia, with a particular focus on renter advocacy and civic engagement in low-income, immigrant communities. BU-GATA, short for Buckingham and Gates of Arlington , was established by Latino renters in 1992.
BU-GATA was created to stop displacement from a neighborhood multi-family complex, the Gates of Arlington. As the organization grew stronger, residents began to broaden BU-GATA’s focus to include community stability, and in 1998, addressed another neighborhood need - youth leadership development - by creating the Buckingham Youth Brigade.
As a community-based non-profit, BU-GATA has focused on defending tenants, educating residents about their rights, and fighting to preserve the community when gentrification threatens.
BU-GATA's mission is to serve Arlington's low-income, immigrant communities through education and leadership development programs, focusing on education and civic engagement in public policy issues.
