About Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

Location:

1550 Anacostia Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20019, US

Mission Statement

We encourage public discovery of a unique educational resource - an incredible wetland and natural riparian environment surprisingly located two miles from the Capitol along the tidal Anacostia River. We work in partnership with the staff at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, a unit of the National Park Service, to protect, restore, and promote Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The Friends, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, seeks to ensure that the park’s natural, historical, and recreational potential is fully realized.

Description

Our members believe that we must celebrate and protect this jewel within our city and region. Given the unique characteristics of the park, Friends will achieve our mission by pursuing the following goals:

  1. Encouraging residents and visitors to enjoy and support Kenilworth by volunteering their time in this beautiful setting;
  2. Supporting the National Park Service at Kenilworth with our time, talents and donations;
  3. Developing and delivering high quality educational, interpretive, and volunteer programs; and
  4. Building a broad constituency to advocate for the park for years to come.
