Mission Statement

The mission of Interaction Transition is to benefit community safety by facilitating a successful transition by formerly incarcerated individuals, from life in prison to life in the community. I/T helps its participants meet certain critical basic needs, such as employment. The program greatly reduces the risk that participants will resume criminal activity, increases safety within the community, and advances successful reintegration with fellow community members. In addition to providing basic support to those in transition, I/T promotes reconciliation with society, making extensive use of community volunteers, who facilitate group meetings and help participants solve practical problems. To maximize its effectiveness, Interaction Transition maintains a cooperative, collaborative relationship with many other local social-service providers. I/T also advocates the dedication of adequate public resources toward a productive transitioning process.

Description

Interaction Transition (I/T) was founded in 1975 as a reentry support program for individuals exting incarceration. I/T runs long term volunteer programs at Monroe Correctional Complex, as well as providing post-release employment services for those exiting incarceration.
