ORGANIZATION: Hearth, Inc.

  • 6 people are interested

We are in need of a volunteer to food shop for our Elsie Frank House, and some residents. The Elsie Frank House is a congregate living house and home to 9 formerly homeless elderly women.

The volunteer will shop for food for the house as a whole and for residents who need assistance. Right now the shopping has been done on Wednesday evenings, but it is completely optional and up to the volunteer(s).

The shopping can be done by two people, one person for the house and one for the residents, or completed by one person.

You are only donating your time/transportation, not purchasing and donating the food. It is preferred that the volunteer has access to a vehicle for this opportunity.

Mission Statement

Hearth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. This mission is accomplished through a unique blend of prevention, placement, and housing programs all designed to help elders find and succeed in homes of their own. To this end, all housing operated by Hearth provides a creative array of supportive services that assist residents to age with dignity, regardless of their special medical, mental health, or social needs. Hearth believes these goals are best accomplished through respect for elders and staff, with the desire to see both achieve their highest degree of potential.

Description

About Hearth:

Since 1991, we’ve created 228 units of permanent affordable homes across Greater Boston, each with the support services this unique population needs. Hearth is committed to placing elders in service-enriched housing, promoting as much self-sufficiency as possible by providing or connecting elders with the services they require: Health and Behavioral Health Services. Individual service plans are created to fit the unique needs of each resident.

Hearth’s Outreach & Prevention Programs provide a comprehensive set of services to homeless and at-risk elders to help them reestablish their lives within permanent and affordable housing in and around the City of Boston.

As of 2021, marking our 30th year, we have housed over 2,800 elders and provided additional services to even more!

About Volunteer Opportunities:
