ORGANIZATION: Winooski Community Services Department

Overview

Under the direction of the Winooski Housing Authority (WHA) in partnership with the Winooski Senior Center, volunteer Transportation Drivers use the City of Winooski bus to give rides to seniors to and from various locations. Trips could include but are not limited to: Walmart, Goodwill, Hannaford, and Shaw’s.

Responsibilities

  • Sign out the van key from the Winooski Senior Center
  • Collect donations and return money to Senior Center
  • Keep track of mileage and participants counts
  • Assist seniors getting in and out of the vehicle
  • Follow all rules of the road
  • Be a friendly face for all who use the service

Requirements

  • All volunteers must follow the expectations and guidelines outlined in the City’s Volunteer Handbook (provided to volunteer during application process).
  • Be able to pass a screening test, including a background check.
  • Return the van key, collected donations, and mileage sheet to the Senior Center after every run
  • Participate in a short training with the current driver
  • Report any accidents with the Senior Center Manager

The Community Services Department oversees the Parks and Rec Department, The Winooski Senior Center, the Winooski Memorial Library, Thrive Afterschool Programming, The O'Brien Community Center, and the Winooski Community Gardens.
