The planning committee meets 1x a month for 1 hour to help plan the Hartford Strides walk.
Core Responsibilities:
- Help plan the logistics of the 2020 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of Hartford
- Volunteer during the walk to set up and break down
- Assist in making phone calls to past walk participants
- Develop relationships with new and current community teams
- Manage teams recruited directly from your community engagement efforts
- Develop marketing strategies to reach a larger market within the metro area
- Research other community events and outreach opportunities with goal of creating and cultivating community teams (friends/family, social clubs, youth, churches, military, schools/universities, multi-cultural, LGBT, etc.)
- Work with staff partner to create a sub-committee (and "street team") of volunteers to help support you in your role (ex: Team Recruitment chair, Marketing chair, Networking chair, etc.)
- Work with event staff partner to compile a list of potential distribution avenues and develop a collateral distribution plan and other promotional strategies

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is more than just the name of a walk; it describes the progress we’re making together to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
Each year our walks are held nationwide to celebrate those who have battled breast cancer, educate about ways to reduce the risk, and empower communities to join the fight. Since 1993, nearly seven million walkers across the country have raised more than $400 million through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer - funding breakthrough breast cancer research and helping people stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back. In 2013 alone, nearly 800,000 walkers across the country collected $60 million to fight breast cancer.
Here in New England, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has been taking place since 1993, and we have raised more than $46 million dollars. Each year more and more people come out to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society and join our cause. In 2013, over 3,000 supporters walked the 5K route and helped raise over $130,000 in New Haven County.
Our event is an empowering experience that attracts participants who are committed to taking an active role in creating a cancer-free world.
