Great Strides needs leaders and side walkers to help our students with special needs as they learn to ride. Leaders guide the horse under the direction of the instructor. Side walkers walk next to the horse and rider to keep him/her safe and help to follow directions. Must be able to walk and jog over half hour time periods. No prior experience is necessary. We will teach the skills.

About Great Strides Long Island at Saddle Rock Ranch

Location:

41 Coram-Swezeytown Road, Middle Island, NY 11953, US

Mission Statement

Great Strides is dedicated to offering programs that offer the unique benefits of equine-assisted activities to special needs people of all ages. We understand the power of the horse/human relationship and how beneficial it can be to the human body and soul and are devoted to sharing those benefits with children, adults and veterans of ALL abilities.

Description

Great Strides Long Island, Inc. was founded by a group of people who have seen and experienced how horseback riding and other equine-assisted activities can help individuals with special challenges overcome those challenges and develop confidence as well as physical and emotional strength. As riders themselves, they understand the power of the horse/human relationship and how beneficial it can be to the human body and soul. Our equine friends can help us face all of life’s challenges with strength and confidence.

Our members commit their time and energy to provide riding lessons and other equine programs, scholarships, equipment, horses and even physical assistance so that more members of our community can experience a healthy physical and developmentally enriching equine experience, regardless of their challenges.
